Sumas Environmental Services Inc.

Prior to receiving waste material, it has to pass through a pre-acceptance criteria. Sumas requires waste information from its generator through samples, information sheets and analytical results from representative samples from laboratories with BC MELP approved QA/QC protocols. In the transfer station and waste treatment facility, each load is inspected and sampled to ensure that the waste corresponds to the information provided. Waste screening encompasses: physical description, pH, ignitibility, chlorine screen and gas chromatography. Waste screening is done either in-house or by a third party laboratory. Waste materials are checked and documented in a profile sheet.

A soil is eligible to be delisted if it is analyzed by an independent laboratory and found to have contaminant levels below the BC MELP WMA-CSR and the Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment- Soil Criteria Guidelines for commercial/industrial soil. Certificate of Final Disposal is issued after soil treatment is completed.

In the soil treatment facility, ambient air, groundwater, surface water are monitored regularly. Sumas Environmental facilities are inspected weekly for work, structure, equipment, potential for leaks, fire, non-compliance with regulations and inventory.
